You need to have an original idea for a prototype that can be manufactured at Proto Labs, a “rapid” injection molding company. It should be in the form of a 3D CAD model, should be your original idea, and should not have been previously published or have won any other award.
Most companies provide innovators help once they are already created. This ideas contest is unique as it has been put together in order to help those who have ideas but have not got the funding to get the basic prototype of their idea built.

Their site features competitions which focus on the crunching of data sets, and is aimed at statisticians, computer scientists and other academics, as well as amateurs. The prizes range from hundreds to millions of dollars. The platform has proved popular with companies which are looking to capitalize on their existing data sets to predict future behaviors.
Methodologies for predicting future behavior by identifying patterns from existing data have been around for centuries. There is proof that data mining in customer relationship management applications can contribute significantly to the bottom line. With the recent growth in size and complexity of data sets, companies are seeking new data mining algorithms in order to create an informational advantage in the form of business intelligence.
Data mining is increasingly being used in areas of science and engineering, such as bioinformatics, genetics, medicine, education and electrical power engineering. In addition, spatial data mining (the application of data mining methods to spatial data) aims to find patterns in geography.
Kaggle hosts predictive behavior competitions which make use of statistical analysis. If you love crunching data sets to create something meaningful, you are sure to find something challenging. Get digging into those data mines!
